About Your Inspector…

"My first job is being a good father and my second job is being a good inspector"

Michael Collins-Smythe began working with his family in carpentry at an early age.  Understanding the fundamentals as well as the minutiae of construction came naturally.  Michael later attended Oglethorpe University where he completed his B.A.  After working in the software industry for a few years he returned to his passion—residential construction.

He wanted to set up a business with traditional customer service values of guaranteed satisfaction*.  After completing extensive training, he combined his business and construction background to create The Inspection Company, LLC.

In response to complaints heard about other inspection firms providing inept half hour inspections, Michael decided to start a business with a more comprehensive focus. Not only would a client receive thorough home inspections, but they would also learn about their homes and the maintenance needed to keep them in great shape. The goal is to create smart homeowners who understand how to take care of their investments—usually the biggest in their lifetimes. The result has been a business built on over 90% referrals from previous clients, builders, and professional real estate professionals.

Michael carries certification with the International Code Council (formerly CABO), an achievement most inspectors fail to ever attain.  He is a certified inspector with both the American Society of Home Inspectors and the National Association of Home Inspectors, and is a member of the Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Home Inspectors, and The National Association of Real Estate Professionals.  He is an active committee member with the Georgia Chapter of ASHI and volunteers to mentor new inspectors.  Additionally, he has authored several articles and white papers on common building defects and home maintenance.
